It’s their lives. We are lucky we are still here, but this represents the ones that didn’t make it, the ones that volunteered, left their families, and some didn’t come home to this museum.

The exhibits begin with “They Came From The Sea,” where visitors are transported to the Pacific Theater of World War II. Guests can step inside an amphibious vehicle and experience what it may have felt like for Marines storming the shores of Iwo Jima.

“You know now they can bring their families and show them this is what your daddy or mommy does, or this is what your granddaddy did.”

Artifacts donated by Marine families help tell the story throughout the museum. In the section called “Ties That Bind,” visitors can learn about local Marines and their connections to the community.

“To all of those people that held onto their grandfathers’ and great-grandfathers’ stuff that donated it, we are very appreciative of that.”

The journey continues into “Innovations,” featuring interactive exhibits showcasing Marine aviation, technology, and advancements throughout the Corps’ history.

A Vietnam-era Huey helicopter, the first of its kind issued to the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune in the 1960s.

Children will walk through these halls and learn more lessons no textbook could ever teach,” Senator Mike Lazzara said.

The museum features 22 exhibits in total and opens to the public on Monday, June 8th.

The following is General Information and Ticket Information, according to their website:

Hours:

Tuesday – Sunday: 9:00 am–5:00 pmClosed Mondays

General Admission:

Ages 16-54 –$14.00Seniors (55+) – $10.00Veterans –$8.00Active Duty Military –$6.00

Youth Admission:

Age 4 -15 –$6.00Age 0 – 3 –$0.00

Group Rate:

Comment with Bubbles

JOIN THE CONVERSATION (1)

School Group –$6.00Group Rate (pre-booked groups of 10 or more) –$12.00

After decades of planning, the Carolina Museum of the Marine officially cut the ribbon, celebrating the history and…

[8
116,118,117
post-297995","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville-headlines","tag-jacksonville-news
["GET
