Rick Scott is urging officials at Raymond James Stadium to reconsider hosting the artist formerly known as Kanye West, citing the rapper\u2019s history of antisemitic remarks and controversial public statements.<\/p>\n<p>The criticism comes as Ye prepares for two scheduled performances at the Tampa venue on June 26 and June 29. The second date was added after strong demand from fans.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter sent to the Tampa Sports Authority, Scott questioned whether a taxpayer-supported stadium should host an artist whose comments have sparked widespread backlash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWest\u2019s remarks are vile and a slap in the face to our state\u2019s Jewish community,\u201d Scott wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Senator Rick Scott Requests the Cancellation of Hip-Hop Mogul Ye (Kanye West) Tampa Concerts<\/p>\n<p>The Republican senator pointed to Ye\u2019s past praise of Adolf Hitler, his self-identification as a Nazi and other statements that have generated criticism from advocacy groups, political leaders and members of the music industry.<\/p>\n<p>Scott also referenced a controversial Super Bowl advertisement that directed viewers to merchandise featuring swastika imagery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is troubling that a stadium supported by taxpayer dollars would openly subsidize an event led by an artist known for pushing this dangerous, hateful rhetoric,\u201d Scott wrote. \u201cEspecially with Florida having one of the largest Jewish populations in our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The senator urged stadium officials to \u201ccarefully review this decision.\u201d He also offered assistance from his office as they evaluate the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the criticism, the Tampa Sports Authority signaled that the concerts will proceed as scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize the concerns and viewpoints being expressed about the upcoming events at Raymond James Stadium,\u201d the authority said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Officials emphasized that the venue operates as a public facility and must follow constitutional free speech protections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a public agency, we follow the principles of free speech in operating our venue, although we do not condone remarks or actions from any artists that are offensive and divisive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott has also voiced his concerns on social media, arguing that Ye should not be given a platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoesn\u2019t deserve a stage to spread his hate anywhere, especially Florida,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The dispute has added another layer of controversy to Ye\u2019s return to the concert stage. It reignites debate about free speech in public venues.
