TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – We are no strangers to the heat in June, but the lower humidity has made it slightly more tolerable. A hot and dry weekend is in store across North Florida and South Georgia. Enjoy the weather, because the humidity and scattered shower chances are back next week. <\/p>\n

Another pleasant start to the day with low humidity and cooler temperatures. Heading out the door for the morning run will feel great. However, it is going to heat up quickly. Highs in the low 90s this afternoon. Be sure to stay hydrated if you are outdoors today.<\/p>\n
Tomorrow will be another nice start before a hot afternoon. If you have things to get done outdoors, get that done early and enjoy the pool in the afternoon as it gets into the low and mid 90s in the afternoon. There could be a stray shower near I-75 or along and west of the Apalachicola River. Otherwise, we stay dry.<\/p>\n
The heat peaks on Monday as high pressure sits over the Big Bend and South Georgia. The humidity will also be a touch higher. You still will be able to enjoy the morning hours, but mid-90s are likely on Monday afternoon, probably one of the hottest days we have seen so far this year. As you get back to work next week, keep that in mind. Give yourself breaks if you work outdoors, wear sunscreen and stay hydrated.<\/p>\n
Temperatures stay in the low 90s for the remainder of the week. Morning lows slowly become more muggy in the low to mid 70s. <\/p>\n
The hidden risk:<\/p>\n
With hot weather this weekend and next week, you and the family might want to head to the coast. Wakulla County beaches are going to be just fine. However, if you are planning a trip to Saint George Island this weekend, the rip current risk remains high. A rip current can quickly pull you out to open waters and make it a struggle to get back to shore. Try not to go deeper than your knees with the high rip currents this weekend. <\/p>\n
For boaters, the waters are looking much better with winds between 5 and 15 knots and seas 1 to 3 feet this weekend.<\/p>\n
Drought continues:<\/p>\n
The nice weekend is appreciated by many, while farmers are not content with the ongoing drought. Folks along the Apalachicola River and west have seen significant improvements. Meanwhile, the eastern Big Bend and Eastern Georgia are still experiencing extreme to exceptional drought and need significantly more rain to make up for the rainfall deficit. While there is scattered rain and storms in the forecast next week, no significant rain is expected. <\/p>\n
Tropical moisture next weekend:<\/p>\n
I am keeping my eyes on the Gulf waters next week. A surge of tropical moisture is expected late next week and next weekend. The location of this plume is still highly uncertain, but this could be a very good thing, bringing beneficial rains to the area. <\/p>\n
There is a small chance this slug of moisture becomes a little more organized into a tropical depression by the weekend. Despite what you see on social media, the chances of any organized tropical system look unlikely right now. <\/p>\n
The higher rain chances and clouds will be accompanied by really humid air and slightly cooler temperatures. <\/p>\n
