FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 Sean Alexis appeared before a Broward County judge Sunday, days after Fort Lauderdale police arrested him in connection with a crash involving a Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office deputy.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the 40-year-old is accused of hitting a deputy\u2019s vehicle on Broward Boulevard on Friday evening and then leaving the scene.<\/p>\n
An eyewitness said a black vehicle ran a red light and struck the sheriff\u2019s vehicle on the side.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe black vehicle ran through the red light. Caught the sheriff car on the side. The sheriff\u2019s car spinned all the way down to Broward Blvd until it made a stop,\u201d the witness said.<\/p>\n
The witness also said the driver got out of the vehicle and ran across the street.<\/p>\n
During Sunday\u2019s hearing, prosecutors detailed Alexis\u2019 driving history, which dates back to 2008 and includes multiple traffic violations.<\/p>\n
Court records show violations ranging from running red lights to a conviction for driving 95 mph in a 65-mph zone.<\/p>\n
Records also show Alexis\u2019 driver\u2019s license has been suspended since August. He currently has a pending case alleging he drove 55 mph in a 35-mph zone and failed to obey a traffic control device.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, officers cited Alexis and accused him of knowingly driving with a suspended license while traveling 37 mph in a school zone.<\/p>\n
His defense attorney told the court Alexis cares for two children, ages 10 and 4, is unemployed and can only afford to pay $1,000 toward a bond.<\/p>\n
If Alexis is released on bond, a judge ordered that he must wear an ankle monitor. He also is prohibited from driving and must surrender his passport.<\/p>\n
