The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting Sunday evening on the city\u2019s Southside.<\/p>\n
According to a media notification sent by JSO, the shooting occurred in the 2900 block of East Kline Road. Officers were responding to a domestic dispute involving the use of a firearm. <\/p>\n
The armed individual was chased by officers before she was tased. JSO says she then pulled out a pistol from her waistband and fired one shot at officers. <\/p>\n
Officers returned fire striking the suspect \u201cnumerous times,\u201d according to JSO. <\/p>\n
Officers identified the suspect as 22-year-old Keon Alex Atkinson and noted that they have responded to eight mental-health related calls at her residence.<\/p>\n
The officers involved in the shooting had no prior history of involvement in an officer-involved shooting, according to JSO.<\/p>\n
Life saving measures were performed at the scene and Atkinson was taken to the hospital where she is in critical condition. <\/p>\n
News4JAX crews responded to the scene after receiving a tip from a viewer who reported hearing gunfire around 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe heard the shots as well,\u201d the viewer told News4JAX. \u201cWe were just a couple houses down.\u201d<\/p>\n
Officer-involved shootings are typically investigated by JSO\u2019s Internal Affairs Unit and the State Attorney\u2019s Office to determine whether department policies and state laws were followed.<\/p>\n
