Construction has been ongoing for a retaining wall<\/a> in the Piston Peak construction site since mid-March. The section across from Diamond Horseshoe has been the focus of the newest wall segments for the last several weeks and new concrete has been revealed.<\/p>\n

Piston Peak Construction\"Piston<\/a><\/p>\n

The installation of a retaining wall, which began in mid-February<\/a>, is now making up a large section of the perimeter of the West and South sides of the construction site. We have been closely following the installation of the wall. The process involves placing large sections of vertical rebar in the center of a concrete foundation. The vertical rebar is sandwiched between large concrete forms and then filled with concrete to create the structural retaining wall.<\/p>\n

In the above photo, you can see the newest hardened concrete section of the retaining wall that has emerged from its form. <\/p>\n

The above photo is how that section of the wall looked on May 13, as the white concrete form was being assembled around the vertical row of rebar. <\/p>\n

This white form has a standing platform and railings for the concrete workers to stand on. From there, they direct the concrete from a concrete boom truck into the gap that is created when both sides of the form are in position.<\/p>\n

Here is a close-up photo from May 13, where the angle of the rebar resembles the final concrete wall segment. <\/p>\n

There was a significant amount of activity on the site during today\u2019s visit, including several excavators, including these two, relocating large volumes of earth. <\/p>\n

The construction on the\u00a0Cars-themed\u00a0area is well underway, named\u00a0Piston Peak National Park and inspired by Pixar Animation Studios film\u00a0Cars\u00a0and real-life national parks, particularly the Rocky Mountains, Yosemite, and Yellowstone.<\/p>\n

Piston Peak National Park will include two attractions. One is an off-road\u00a0rally race ride<\/a>, the other will be a more family-friendly attraction.<\/p>\n
