{"id":301445,"date":"2026-06-09T16:09:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T16:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/301445\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T16:09:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T16:09:10","slug":"shark-attack-off-florida-coast-leaves-navy-base-employee-with-critical-injuries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/301445\/","title":{"rendered":"Shark attack off Florida coast leaves Navy base employee with critical injuries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/tag\/united-states-navy\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">United States Navy<\/a> base employee was seriously injured after he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/shark-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">attacked by a shark<\/a> while swimming off a popular Florida beach on Monday, officials say.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Navy, the man was swimming near a marina in Panama City when he was attacked by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/shark\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">shark<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries to his arms.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the water off the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/tag\/florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Florida<\/a> Panhandle is a nursery for shark species.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In some of the species, they just move in shore and offshore when it gets cold,&#8221; NOAA researcher Dr. John Carlson said. &#8220;You know, when the water temperature gets down into the 60s and stuff they&#8217;ll move offshore. But other species have very broad migration. Some species will migrate all the way to South Florida to southern areas in the Gulf.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Experts advise people to not swim in area where there may be fishing.
