{"id":301983,"date":"2026-06-10T00:26:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T00:26:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/301983\/"},"modified":"2026-06-10T00:26:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T00:26:09","slug":"downtown-miami-attack-survivor-thanks-stranger-who-saved-her-life-nbc-6-south-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/301983\/","title":{"rendered":"Downtown Miami attack survivor thanks stranger who saved her life \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One month after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/woman-stabbed-in-the-face-in-downtown-miami-fire-rescue-officials-say\/3810850\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a brutal attack<\/a> outside her downtown Miami condominium, Caitlin Dydzuhn is recovering physically and emotionally \u2014 and publicly thanking the stranger who stepped in and saved her life.<\/p>\n<p>Dydzuhn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/woman-left-partially-blind-after-brutal-attack-in-downtown-miami\/3815099\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">suffered severe cuts<\/a>, required stitches, and sustained permanent damage to her eye after police say she was knocked to the ground, punched, and stabbed with a homemade shank. The attack happened just steps from her building, across from the Kaseya Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou never would know this until you become a victim,\u201d Dydzuhn said. \u201cYou become a semi\u2011public figure overnight, and people attack you for everything \u2014 your appearance, your mannerisms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her attacker, identified by police as Raydean Johnson, was subdued with a taser and taken into custody. He remains in jail.<\/p>\n<p>But amid the trauma, Dydzuhn says one thing has brought her comfort: the man who rushed in to stop the assault.<\/p>\n<p>Cassius Bythewood, a Miami resident, was walking nearby when he saw the attack and intervened. Police credit him with preventing the assault from becoming fatal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way I was raised was: do not panic in situations and help those in need,\u201d Bythewood said.<\/p>\n<p>The two have remained close since the incident. On Monday night, Dydzuhn and Bythewood attended a community meeting with neighbors and the Miami Police Chief to discuss safety concerns for downtown residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs horrific as this is, it has been a blessing to grow a friendship with her,\u201d Bythewood said. \u201cThis is something that bonds two people for life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bythewood is no stranger to community involvement.
