JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 A Coast Guard Station Ponce De Leon boat crew located and rescued two mariners aboard a disabled vessel approximately 18 miles east of Ormond Beach, Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville received a report of an overdue 25-foot recreational vessel with two people aboard after it failed to return to Ponce Inlet as scheduled following an offshore fishing trip.<\/p>\n
Sector Jacksonville watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of a Station Ponce De Leon boat crew. Due to the size of the search area, a C-27 aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater was also launched to assist in the search.<\/p>\n
During search efforts, the reporting source received a phone call from the vessel’s operator, who reported that everyone was safe, but their vessel was disabled and in need of assistance. Sector\u00a0Jacksonville watchstanders were able to establish a position approximately 18 miles east of Ormond Beach based on the phone call. A Station Ponce De Leon boat crew arrived on scene, located the vessel, and confirmed both mariners were safe and in good health.<\/p>\n
The crew determined the vessel had experienced a complete power outage and took the vessel in tow toward Ponce Inlet. The tow was later transferred to commercial salvage closer to shore.<\/p>\n

The Coast Guard reminds mariners to file a float plan with a trusted contact, carry reliable communication equipment, and ensure their vessel is properly maintained before getting underway.<\/p>\n
