49-year-old Raydean Johnson<\/a>, remains behind bars and is charged with attempted murder.<\/p>\nMiami Commissioner Vicki Lopez shared her concerns about public safety.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think any of us are really, truly safe, because this happened in broad daylight,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
When asked about safety in her own neighborhood, Lopez said that since the stabbing, she\u2019s on high alert.<\/p>\n
\u201cI did say that because I walk everywhere \u2014 I walk during the day, and I walk at night \u2014 and just because this happened to Caitlin [Dydzuhn] during the day, puts me on high notice to be a lot more fearful than I ever have been,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Lopez also said that she wants to see more officers in Miami\u2019s urban core.<\/p>\n
Other residents shared their stories, including Dydzuhn, who is still recovering.<\/p>\n
\u201cI could have had an AK-47, and I still would have almost lost my life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
While contentious at times, most residents agreed on increasing mental health resources and increasing police presence throughout the city.<\/p>\n
Morales suggested reforming the jail system and gave other potential solutions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to make sure that we fix our jailing system that is dumping all those criminals in the City of Miami,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDoes the State Attorney\u2019s Office, and the criminal justice system, and the judges, are they to blame for a lot of this, of these guys continuing to get out of jail?\u201d asked 7News\u2019 reporter Sheldon Fox.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not blaming anybody. What I\u2019m saying is we all need to work together, do our specific jobs in our lanes, to make this city safe, to make sure that serious criminals like this are being held accountable,\u201d said Morales.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat can you do now to make sure that people like Caitlin Dydzuhn and others feel safe after what happened to her?\u201d asked Fox.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegain their trust, put your money where your mouth is,\u201d said Morales.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore cops are going to be on the street, then?\u201d asked Fox.<\/p>\n
\u201cAbsolutely,\u201d said Morales.<\/p>\n
Johnson\u2019s arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday morning, but he did not appear. Prosecutors called for a new hearing on Friday, as they pursue harsher penalties against the defendant if he is convicted.<\/p>\n
