FLORIDA CITY, FLA. (WSVN) – – Authorities are investigating a shooting in a Florida City neighborhood that left a young child dead.<\/p>\n
Cameras captured the moment when Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews wheeled the young victim, believed to be around 5 years old, into HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, early Wednesday morning. Sadly, the patient would not survive.<\/p>\n
Florida City Police units responded to the scene of the shooting near Northwest 14th Street and First Court, at around 2 a.m.<\/p>\n
Officers cordoned off a portion of the street, lined with homes and apartments, while they conducted their investigation.<\/p>\n
7News has learned the child was initially transported to Baptist Health Homestead Hospital before being airlifted to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where the patient was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n
7News cameras captured a woman who appeared to be a loved one arriving to the scene visibly distraught. She drove off shortly after.<\/p>\n
Neighbors were saddened to hear about the child\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is pitiful, very pitiful,\u201d said area resident Betty Hammond.<\/p>\n
Back at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, people who appear to be family members anxiously awaited near the entrance to the emergency room.<\/p>\n
The circumstances surrounding how this child may have been shot remain unclear. The Miami-Dade Sheriff\u2019s Office has taken the lead in this ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n
