Miami, FL – Miami-Dade County officials have taken action to secure a critical piece of infrastructure that supports operations at one of the nation’s busiest cruise and cargo ports.<\/p>\n
County leaders voted to move forward with eminent domain proceedings involving a fuel storage property located on Fisher Island that serves PortMiami. <\/p>\n
The decision follows a lengthy dispute over ownership and future control of the site, which county officials say is essential to maintaining fuel access for ships operating through the port.<\/p>\n
The facility stores fuel that is transported by barge to vessels arriving at and departing from PortMiami. <\/p>\n
According to county officials, continued access to the property is necessary to support cruise operations, cargo activity, and other maritime services that contribute significantly to the local economy.<\/p>\n
The property was purchased by a private development group in a deal valued at approximately $180 million. <\/p>\n
