Budget airline Spirit Airlines<\/a>\u00a0in 2024 built a shimmering new headquarters for itself in Dania Beach, Florida. Two years later, Spirit is\u00a0out of business and the four-building campus\u00a0just south of\u00a0Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is set to be auctioned off.<\/p>\n

\n Spirit Airlines opened the office in 2024 at 1731 Radiant Drive.\n <\/p>\n

An auction for the 8.5-acre complex at 1731 Radiant Drive\u00a0has been scheduled for July 22\u00a0at a law office in New York City. Potential buyers have the option to buy the entire campus or portions of it, according to filings in bankruptcy court.<\/p>\n

The deadline for expressions of interest, including for a potential stalking horse bid, is set for June 24. The final bid deadline is July 20.<\/p>\n

The budget airline\u00a0filed for bankruptcy<\/a> in late 2024 after years of reporting losses. Despite attempts at merging with JetBlue,\u00a0slimming\u00a0down operations and\u00a0nearly landing<\/a> a $500M government bailout from President Donald Trump<\/a>,\u00a0it ran out of cash to operate.<\/p>\n

Spirit’s\u00a0abrupt shutdown<\/a> early last month, which left roughly\u00a017,000 employees\u00a0without jobs<\/a>\u00a0at a moment’s notice, meant its recently delivered South Florida headquarters was going to hit the market<\/a>\u00a0sooner or later.<\/p>\n

Spirit spent $275M on the headquarters, which the company named Spirit Central<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0opened in 2024, just seven months before\u00a0it filed for bankruptcy.<\/p>\n

The campus includes a 180K SF office building for more than 1,000 employees across six floors, an amenity building with a gym, lounge spaces and a caf\u00e9, an in-flight and flight operations training facility, and housing for up to 400 visiting workers.<\/p>\n

Spirit listed the value of the land at $33M and the buildings at $228M, according to the company’s bankruptcy filings. The office is valued at $133M, including the land and the building, according to the Broward County property appraiser.<\/p>\n

The campus was listed\u00a0for auction separately from the airline’s LaGuardia Airport<\/a> slots, which\u00a0are set for auction on June 30, and other assets, like engines and equipment, which\u00a0are set for auction on July 7.<\/p>\n

Broward County commissioners are set to consider bidding on the office\u00a0to use as a replacement\u00a0for the county’s current office in downtown Fort Lauderdale, according\u00a0to a motion and exhibits<\/a> reviewed at a commission meeting on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The county would not pay more than $100M on the asset and would\u00a0only purchase the office building, parking garage and training building designed as a flight simulator for pilots.<\/p>\n

Vacant land between the office and the training\u00a0center would give the county the option to build a new structure,\u00a0according to a letter<\/a> Spirit sent to the county detailing the campus and the bidding process on May 30.<\/p>\n
