TECO said it will remove a temporary storm recovery surcharge beginning August 1st, moving up the timeline for customer savings by approximately one month. <\/p>\n
The surcharge was implemented to help cover expenses related to restoring power after the active 2024 hurricane season and to replenish funds used for storm response efforts.<\/p>\n
According to the utility, the charge had initially been scheduled to remain on customer bills through August before ending later in the year. <\/p>\n
The revised timeline means residential and small business customers will begin receiving relief during the summer, a period when electricity usage often increases due to higher temperatures and air conditioning demand.<\/p>\n
TECO estimates that a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per month could see a reduction of nearly $20 on their monthly bill. <\/p>\n
The exact amount of savings will vary depending on energy consumption and billing plans. <\/p>\n
Customers enrolled in budget billing programs may experience the decrease more gradually because those plans are based on average usage over time.<\/p>\n
