At the meeting, council members unanimously selected Miami-Dade Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert III as chair and Tina Vidal-Duart as vice chair. As chair, Commissioner Gilbert will lead a collaborative effort focused on identifying long-term priorities, strengthening regional coordination, and advancing forward-thinking solutions that support sustainable growth and opportunity throughout Miami-Dade County.

Through strategic collaboration and long-range planning, the council will focus on seven major priority areas critical to the county’s future development and success:
• Housing
• Rapid Transit
• Public Safety
• Economic Development
• Culture and Arts
• Education and Talent Retention
• Healthcare

“The work of this Council is about preparing Miami-Dade County for the opportunities and challenges of the future,” Gilbert said. “As our community continues to grow and evolve, it is important that we bring together diverse perspectives and expertise to help guide thoughtful, long-term planning that benefits all residents.”
