FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 A suspect who barricaded himself inside a Fort Lauderdale business Friday afternoon was taken into custody after a SWAT response that lasted several hours, police said.<\/p>\n
According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers were called at approximately 2:42 p.m. to a business near Northwest Ninth Street and Northwest 10th Terrace after receiving a report of a man who entered a restricted area and began \u201cacting erratically.\u201d <\/p>\n
Patrol officers, a K-9 unit and the Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office Aviation Unit searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the man. Investigators later determined he was still inside the business and alone.<\/p>\n
Police said the suspect, who has not yet been identified, was not authorized to be inside the building.<\/p>\n
Fort Lauderdale Police Department SWAT officers and crisis negotiators responded to the scene and attempted to communicate with the man.<\/p>\n
Shortly afterward, police announced that the individual \u201csurrendered peacefully\u201d and was taken into custody. <\/p>\n
Police have not released any information about why the man barricaded himself inside the business, and no charges have been announced.<\/p>\n
