Wolfson Children\u2019s Hospital recently announced that two major initiatives advancing pediatric cardiac and emergency care will be supported by a\u00a0$5.5-million\u00a0grant\u00a0from the Terry Family\u00a0Foundation, their\u00a0largest investment in Northeast Florida to date.\u00a0A\u00a0portion\u00a0of the grant is matched at 150% by Baptist Health, for a total impact of $10 million.<\/p>\n
The grant will support major\u00a0technology\u00a0and equipment upgrades\u00a0within the C. Herman & Mary Virginia Terry Heart Institute, as well as the development of the new Children\u2019s Emergency Center,\u00a0part of the hospital\u2019s emergency and patient care expansion in the future\u00a0McGehee Family Tower.\u00a0In an effort to\u00a0attract philanthropic support, Baptist Health is matching all gifts to the McGehee Family Tower project, up to $50 million.<\/p>\n
During their lifetimes, Herman and Mary Virginia Terry played a meaningful role in advancing pediatric care at Wolfson Children\u2019s Hospital and throughout the Jacksonville community.<\/p>\n
Their generosity helped establish\u00a0the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Heart Institute, as well as\u00a0advance\u00a0additional\u00a0critical pediatric programs that continue to\u00a0impact\u00a0thousands of children each year.<\/p>\n
In 2015, they\u00a0established\u00a0the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Asthma Endowment, which supports staffing and programs for asthma education and treatment through THE PLAYERS Center for Child Health at Wolfson Children\u2019s. Their philanthropic legacy also includes the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Neonatal Intensive Care Unit\u00a0(NICU)\u00a0in the Borowy Family Children\u2019s Critical Care Tower, which provides highly specialized care for the region\u2019s most vulnerable newborns.<\/p>\n
Since opening in 2022, the expanded NICU has become an essential resource for families across Northeast Florida, allowing more critically ill and premature infants to receive lifesaving care close to home.<\/p>\n
To commemorate this milestone investment and the Terrys\u2019\u00a0longstanding support of Wolfson Children\u2019s and Baptist Health, leaders from the health system joined representatives from the Terry Family Foundation\u00a0recently to unveil the newly named Terry Family Foundation Plaza on the flagship campus. Located outside the Borowy Family Children\u2019s Critical Care Tower, the\u00a0welcome\u00a0plaza honors the Terry Family Foundation\u2019s impact on programs and services\u00a0benefiting\u00a0children and families throughout the region.<\/p>\n
In recognition of the\u00a0Terry Family\u00a0Foundation\u2019s latest investment, the\u00a0future\u00a0lobby within the new Children\u2019s Emergency Center in the McGehee Family Tower will also be named in honor of the Terry Family\u00a0Foundation\u00a0when the\u00a0first phase of the\u00a0project\u00a0opens\u00a0in\u00a0late\u00a02027.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The new Children\u2019s Emergency Center will be part of the first phase of the hospital\u2019s larger McGehee Family Tower project and will include 37 pediatric treatment rooms, dedicated behavioral health beds and expanded trauma capacity to meet the growing needs of children throughout the region.<\/p>\n
Wolfson Children\u2019s Hospital is home to the region\u2019s only Level\u00a01\u00a0pediatric trauma center and cares for more than 119,000 pediatric emergency visits annually.<\/p>\n
Additionally,\u00a0the grant will provide\u00a0advanced equipment and technology\u00a0within the C. Herman & Mary Virginia Terry Heart Institute\u00a0to\u00a0support highly specialized cardiovascular care for children and adults with congenital heart disease. These enhancements will strengthen clinical capabilities, support innovation in cardiac\u00a0care\u00a0and help ensure patients throughout the region continue to have access to advanced treatment close to home.<\/p>\n
