ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) \u2014 The search for wanted suspect Jarred Louis Mackey has ended after a multi-day manhunt by law enforcement agencies. <\/p>\n
Mackey was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in an apartment in Jacksonville. <\/p>\n
No other individuals were inside the apartment at the time. The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
According to officials, Mackey is a convicted felon, and they obtained an arrest warrant for the following offenses:<\/p>\n
Felony Attempted First-Degree Murder<\/p>\n
Felony Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm<\/p>\n
Assault by Pointing a Gun<\/p>\n
Two Count Resisting a Public Officer <\/p>\n
Assault on a Government Official<\/p>\n
DETAILS FROM ONSLOW COUNTY SHERIFF\u2019S OFFICE: <\/p>\n
Around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, deputies responded to the Park West Apartments on
Valencia Drive in Jacksonville, following up on information developed during the investigation.<\/p>\n
Members of the Onslow County Sheriff\u2019s Office SWAT Team surrounded the apartment building
and began announcing their presence at the apartment door.<\/p>\n
During those announcements, deputies heard a single gunshot from inside the apartment.
Deputies entered the apartment and located Mackey deceased from an apparent self-inflicted
gunshot wound. <\/p>\n
No other individuals were inside the apartment at the time. Investigators believe the apartment belonged to an associate of Mackey.<\/p>\n
