{"id":307553,"date":"2026-06-15T02:35:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T02:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/307553\/"},"modified":"2026-06-15T02:35:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T02:35:09","slug":"cbsb-southern-miss-assistant-travis-creel-hired-as-head-coach-at-jacksonville-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/307553\/","title":{"rendered":"CBSB: Southern Miss assistant Travis Creel hired as head coach at Jacksonville State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supertalk.fm\/category\/sports\/usm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Southern Miss<\/a> will be looking for a new assistant coach, now that Travis Creel has officially been announced as the head man at Jacksonville State.<\/p>\n<p>Creel is taking over as the Gamecocks\u2019 head coach after seven seasons at Southern Miss, where he served as recruiting coordinator, hitting coach, and infield coach under the leadership of both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supertalk.fm\/scott-berry-finds-new-role-at-southern-miss-following-tenure-as-head-baseball-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Scott Berry<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supertalk.fm\/ostrander-harris-earn-individual-honors-as-southern-miss-baseball-nabs-6-all-sun-belt-selections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Christian Ostrander<\/a>. During his time in Hattiesburg, Creel helped the Golden Eagles reach the NCAA Tournament six times, including two super regional appearances, multiple conference championships, and more than 220 victories.<\/p>\n<p><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/g-hope.com\/our-team\/sam-ballard\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"good hope 3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"good hope 3\" data-lazy- data-lazy- width=\"728\" height=\"90\" style=\"display: inline-block;\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Good-Hope_SAM_728x90_rev1.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Good-Hope_SAM_728x90_rev1.jpg\" alt=\"good hope 3\"   width=\"728\" height=\"90\" style=\"display: inline-block;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>His offensive units consistently ranked among the nation\u2019s best. In 2025, Southern Miss won 47 games and set a school record with 106 home runs while leading the Sun Belt in batting average, hits, and home runs. The Golden Eagles advanced to the championship round of the Hattiesburg Regional and finished among the nation\u2019s leaders in multiple offensive categories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am incredibly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Jax State baseball program,\u201d Creel said. \u201cThis is a program with a proud tradition, outstanding facilities, tremendous support, and a clear commitment to winning at the highest level. My family and I are excited to become part of the Jax State community. We look forward to building relationships with our players, alumni, and supporters while pursuing championships and representing this university with pride.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Creel spent his playing days at Southern Miss, where he was a standout infielder and member of the black and gold\u2019s 2009 College World Series team. Before returning to his alma mater as a coach, he spent three seasons at Louisiana Tech, where the Bulldogs won 109 games and established the program\u2019s best three-year stretch in nearly four decades. Before Louisiana Tech, he helped lead Jones College to the 2016 NJCAA National Championship as an assistant.<\/p>\n<p>Since entering the coaching profession, Creel has developed 18 MLB Draft selections since 2021. He becomes the sixth head coach in Jacksonville State baseball history and takes over for Steve Bieser, who was poached by Grand Canyon. Bieser established a strong culture within the Gamecock program.
