One person was killed and four others were injured Saturday evening when gunfire broke out at a memorial<\/a> gathering honoring a homicide victim in Gretna, Florida, according to the Gretna Police Department.<\/p>\n

Gretna Police and the Gadsden County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded to the shooting, which police say occurred at the community gathering around 9:18 p.m. near 181 Beech Avenue. After receiving multiple reports of gunfire, officers found several people suffering from gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

One person dead, four injured in Gretna shooting, according to police<\/p>\n

Gunfire broke out shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 when a group of suspects approached the attendees of a community memorial for a recent homicide victim and opened fire, according to local authorities.<\/p>\n

The shooting injured four people who sustained major injuries, and killed one victim who suffered from life-threatening wounds and died at a local hospital.<\/p>\n

One victim was struck by a fleeing vehicle,<\/a> but was treated at the hospital and released, Gretna Chief of Police Brian Alexander told the Tallahassee Democrat, part of the USA TODAY Network. Other questions were referred to the department\u2019s press release.<\/p>\n

The deceased victim’s identity has not been released<\/p>\n

Police said in a statement Sunday that the investigation “remains active and ongoing.\u201d The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is leading the investigation in coordination with local agencies.<\/p>\n

No suspect information has been made public, but authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Gretna Police Department at 850-856-5257 or submit an anonymous tip through Big Bend Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.<\/p>\n

Gretna is a city in Gadsden County, Florida, considered to be part of the Tallahassee Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gretna is about 33 miles northwest of Tallahassee.<\/p>\n
