JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County \u2014 American Legion Burton-Cowell Post 265 hosted its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on post grounds in Jacksonville, honoring the proper retirement of worn and unserviceable American flags.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was held in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Patriotic Unit of Senator Albert J. Ellis Assembly No. 1541 and the Columbiettes affiliated with Colonel Jerry W. Marvel Council No. 13488 at MCAS New River.<\/p>\n

Members of American Legion Riders Chapter 265 North Carolina and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 265 also took part in the event.<\/p>\n

Organizers said they were honored to be joined by the Northside High School Choir, whose performance added a meaningful touch to the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Despite warm morning temperatures in the upper 80s and the heat from the ceremonial fire, attendees participated in the solemn tradition with respect and patriotism.<\/p>\n

Post officials thanked everyone who attended, participated and helped make the annual ceremony a success.<\/p>\n
