With another round of loaded elections imminent, it\u2019ll be easy for pundits and the public at large to make like the attorney general<\/a> and sidestep questions not just about restoring felons voting rights.<\/p>\n

Not with Daniel Rivero<\/a> around.<\/p>\n

Late last year, the WLRN reporter and producer released \u201cJust Freedom,\u201d<\/a> a deep dive into Florida\u2019s long history of voter suppression and brings readers up to speed as felons continue to fight for their rights to cast ballots despite voters passing Amendment 4 in 2018.<\/p>\n

Deeply-reported, the work covers two decades and finds Rivero using court documents, meeting transcripts, interviews, videos and on-the-ground testimony to show how politics, money, and other challenges have delayed the fulfillment of a promise more than a million felons have been clinging to for nearly a decade.<\/p>\n

Rivera will be at The Commodore<\/a> in discussion with former Tampa Tribune Editor Tom Scherberger (former host of WMNF Tampa\u2019s \u201cWavemakers\u201d public affairs program).<\/p>\n
