MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) – Uruguayan fans packed restaurants across South Florida to watch the first match against Saudi Arabia at Miami Stadium.<\/p>\n
Although the game ended in a 1-1 draw, those gathered inside businesses such as Do\u00f1a Paulina in Southwest Miami-Dade wore their blue-and-white jerseys with pride.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt least they tied. At least,\u201d said a fan.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had many opportunities, but thank God it\u2019s 1-1. At least it\u2019s not 1-0,\u201d said another fan.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe should\u2019ve done better. We were expecting better. But one. We have to take it,\u201d said a third fan.<\/p>\n
Inside the restaurant, many sang Uruguay\u2019s national anthem and cheered on their team.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are going to put them in their place!\u201d said a fan.<\/p>\n
Fans said that even though they didn\u2019t win, they remain hopeful that the next match will be a victory.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust having them here and representing our Charr\u00faa colors and representing our Celeste. We\u2019re so proud of it and wishing for the best,\u201d said a fan.<\/p>\n
The party didn\u2019t only happen in Miami-Dade. Up in Dania Beach, more fans sang and celebrated the first match.<\/p>\n
Many told 7News that Uruguay is just getting started and has more to prove during this World Cup.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re the first world champions. We have four stars. Only eight countries in the world have won the World Cup. Uruguay is one of them so we have history,\u201d said a fan.<\/p>\n
Uruguay\u2019s next World Cup match is against Cape Verde on Sunday.<\/p>\n
