WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 The excitement was building hours before kickoff as soccer fans from across Florida and around the world made their<\/a> way to Hard Rock Stadium for Monday night’s match between Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.<\/p>\n

Hours before the 6 p.m. kickoff, crowds were slowly building across South Florida, from tailgates outside the stadium to train platforms along the Brightline route.<\/p>\n

At the Brightline station in West Palm Beach, fans wearing jerseys from countries across the globe lined up to head south to Miami. Team colors represented nations including Uruguay, Portugal and the United States.<\/p>\n

Many fans chose the train to avoid traffic and enjoy the atmosphere before arriving at the stadium.<\/p>\n

For some, the match marked a special experience.<\/p>\n

“I’m very excited. It’s the first time we go to the World Cup,” Gladis, a World Cup fan, said before boarding.<\/p>\n

Brandon Hill, a Team USA supporter, said there’s nothing like seeing a major international soccer event in person.<\/p>\n

“Obviously seeing anything on TV is cool, but actually being in person, live, watching the event, is amazing,” Hill said.<\/p>\n

Uruguay supporters were also eager to cheer on their team.<\/p>\n

“Especially when Uruguay play, yeah, I’m so proud,” Michel Cureelo, another fan, said.<\/p>\n

As kickoff approached, the energy continued to build with supporters from across Florida and around the world converging on Miami for the international matchup between Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.<\/p>\n

The matchup was Miami’s first game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.
