(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\">WWSB<\/a>) &#8211; A high-speed chase that started in Tampa Tuesday morning ended in Palmetto with the suspect disappearing into the woods, the Florida Highway Patrol said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A search for the suspect was underway in the area of U.S. Highway 41 and 21st Street East. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Highway Patrol said the chase began in Tampa and continued south, over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, at speeds at times up to 110 mph. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">By about 9 a.m., the driver, in Palmetto, abandoned his vehicle and ran into the woods, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Troopers, along with the Manatee County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Palmetto Police were actively searching the area with officers and drones. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Highway Patrol has not yet released details on why the chase began or who the suspect may be. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WWSB.
