(CBS12) \u2014 A bill that would rename two well-known<a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/South%20Florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> South Florida <\/a>roadways after <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Donald%20Trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">President Donald Trump<\/a> and controversial conservative podcaster <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/CHARLIE%20KIRK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Charlie Kirk <\/a>is sitting on <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Governor%20Ron%20DeSantis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/a>\u2019 desk.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flsenate.gov\/Session\/Bill\/2026\/33\/ByCategory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">HB 33<\/a>, passed during this year\u2019s legislative session, is one of nearly 40 bills lawmakers sent to the governor on Monday. If DeSantis signs it, part of Southwest 107th Avenue in Miami-Dade County would become \u201cCharlie Kirk Memorial Avenue,\u201d while Commercial Boulevard in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea would be renamed \u201cPresident Donald J. Trump Boulevard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kirk, 31, was the founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Turning%20Point%20USA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Turning Point USA<\/a> and a rising figure in conservative politics. He was killed Sept. 10, 2025, while speaking at an outdoor rally at Utah Valley University. A 22-year-old man,<a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Tyler%20Robinson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Tyler Robinson<\/a>, was charged in the case and could face the death penalty if convicted.<\/p>\n<p>The road designations would add to a growing list of <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Florida\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Florida <\/a>landmarks named after President Trump. Among them are a bill requiring <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Citizens%20Property%20Insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Citizens Property Insurance <\/a>to create a clearinghouse for certain commercial insurance policies, another mandating local governments to post budgets online, and a proposal to form a task force focused on electric bicycle safety.<\/p>\n<p>Legislative records show the bill\u2019s last action was June 15, when it was signed by House and Senate officers and formally presented to the governor, a procedural step that means the measure has fully cleared the Legislature and is officially ready for executive review.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis has until June 30 to decide whether to sign the bills into law, veto them, or let them take effect without his signature.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla.
