Johnson & Johnson\u00a0announced an investment of more than\u00a0$1 billion\u00a0in Jacksonville, Florida,\u00a0demonstrating\u00a0confidence in American manufacturing and the workforce needed to sustain it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0announcement:\u00a0The\u00a0investment<\/a>\u00a0will strengthen\u00a0J&J\u2019s\u00a0Vision operations by scaling manufacturing,\u00a0packing\u00a0and distribution capabilities\u00a0in Northeast Florida. This\u00a0includes construction of a new,\u00a0state-of-the-art\u00a0distribution facility,\u00a0slated\u00a0to come online in 2028. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\t\tThis investment\u00a0is part of J&J\u2019s\u00a0previously announced<\/a>\u00a0$55 billion\u00a0investment in\u00a0U.S.\u00a0manufacturing, research and development and technology through 2029.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0event: \u00a0The\u00a0news\u00a0was announced by\u00a0J&J\u00a0Chairman\u00a0and CEO Joaquin Duato\u00a0at an event\u00a0in Jacksonville\u00a0on June 15.\u00a0In attendance were\u00a0Manufacturing Institute President Carolyn Lee,\u00a0members of Congress,\u00a0Jacksonville Mayor\u00a0Donna\u00a0Deegan\u00a0and other local leaders.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\t\tIn her remarks, Lee emphasized the urgency of addressing the manufacturing workforce gap and the critical role employers play in developing the skilled talent needed to support long-term growth and competitiveness.
\n \t\tShe highlighted Johnson & Johnson\u2019s leadership in bringing employers,\u00a0educators\u00a0and community partners together to build sustainable talent\u00a0pipelines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Building\u00a0new\u00a0talent pipelines:\u00a0J&J and the MI, the NAM\u2019s workforce development and education affiliate,\u00a0are\u00a0working on plans for\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0FAME chapter in the Jacksonville region.<\/p>\n

\t\tThe MI\u2019s\u00a0FAME<\/a>, the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education,\u00a0is an\u00a0earn-and-learn apprenticeship program\u00a0that trains\u00a0the next generation of manufacturing talent.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\t\tFAME has more than 45 chapters in 17 states.\u00a0The network is\u00a0anticipated\u00a0to grow by more than 15 chapters over the next several years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pipelines at work:\u00a0Since 2021,\u00a0J&J has been the official health care\u00a0supporter\u00a0of the MI\u2019s\u00a0Heroes MAKE America <\/a>\u00a0initiative, which\u00a0prepares\u00a0transitioning service members and veterans\u00a0for new careers in the industry.\u00a0Jacksonville is home to a significant military and veteran population, making it a natural fit for\u00a0HMA\u2019s work\u00a0at nearby Fort Stewart.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From the MI:\u00a0 \u201cJohnson & Johnson understands that a facility is only as strong as the people inside it,\u201d said Lee. \u201cTheir investment in Jacksonville, paired with their long-standing commitment to workforce development, is a model for what manufacturing leadership looks like today.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
