An Apopka AAMCO automotive repair shop has changed ownership, a transaction that one Millenia Partners associate says reflects continued confidence in Apopka\u2019s growing small-business market.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The shop at 1009 E. Semoran Blvd. was sold after more than two decades of operation under longtime ownership. The transaction closed April 1 and transferred the business to local owner-operator Jason Potts. All existing staff members are expected to remain with the company.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The business, which has\u00a0operated\u00a0since 2001, generates approximately $2.3 million in annual revenue, according to information provided by Millenia Partners, the Orlando-based commercial real estate firm that\u00a0brokered\u00a0the sale.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Luke Sawyer, senior associate with Millenia Partners, said the location stood out among similar businesses because of its performance and longevity.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the top-performing AAMCOs in the nation based on gross revenue,\u201d Sawyer said. \u201cIt was doing about 33% more than average repair shops with the same kind of structure and makeup.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sawyer said the transaction\u00a0demonstrates\u00a0the strength of\u00a0Apopka\u2019s\u00a0local economy<\/a> and could encourage\u00a0additional\u00a0business sales in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it shows that it\u2019s thriving,\u201d Sawyer said. \u201c[The Apopka location is] within the top five performing AAMCOs based on revenue \u2026\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0not in Seattle, Washington, or New York City, or anything like that.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0right here in our own backyard.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sawyer said at least a dozen qualified buyers expressed interest in the business.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Among the factors attracting buyers, he said, are the automotive repair\u00a0industry\u2019s\u00a0resistance to economic downturns and the support provided through the AAMCO franchise system.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a recession-proof business,\u201d Sawyer said. \u201cIf the economy is doing good or bad, people still keep their cars and continue to repair them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The sale was completed more quickly than many business transactions because the buyer had already secured financial prequalification, Sawyer said. While similar transactions often take four to six months, this deal closed in\u00a0roughly two\u00a0months.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sawyer said the transaction also reflects broader trends in Central\u00a0Florida\u2019s\u00a0business market, particularly as population growth continues to expand beyond\u00a0Orlando\u2019s\u00a0urban core.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re kind of seeing expansion outside the Orlando core into those secondary markets,\u201d Sawyer said. \u201cEspecially the growth going westward, so you\u2019re looking at Apopka, Clermont, Lake County.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that\u00a0Apopka\u2019s\u00a0growth and business environment helped increase the\u00a0business\u2019s\u00a0appeal to prospective buyers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One factor helping ensure continuity is the retention of the\u00a0shop\u2019s\u00a0workforce.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that it has turnkey employees that know what they\u2019re doing \u2026 really ensures continuity,\u201d Sawyer said. \u201cThey\u2019re buying it based on past performance and hoping that will be indicative of future performance.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Customers are not expected to notice immediate changes because the staff will remain in\u00a0place\u00a0and the shop will continue\u00a0operating\u00a0under the AAMCO brand, according to Sawyer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The property itself was not included in the sale and will be leased to the\u00a0business\u2019s\u00a0new owner, according to\u00a0a\u00a0news release from Millenia Partners.\u00a0<\/p>\n
