The big story: Weeks after the U.S. military captured Venezuelan strongman Nicol\u00e1s Maduro, Florida’s State Board of Education revised its social studies standards<\/a> on communism to include the news.<\/p>\n

Board members said at the time they hoped they’d soon be able to make additional updates reflecting changes in Cuba.<\/p>\n

It appears they’ll get their chance later this month.<\/p>\n

The Department of Education has advertised<\/a> plans to consider another amendment to the social studies standards on June 30. This time, it is to add “recent international events in Cuba.”<\/p>\n

The proposed documents would enter references to the May indictment<\/a> of former Cuban President Ra\u00fal Castro, by the United States, for his alleged role in the 1996 Cuban Air Force shooting down of two aircraft operated by Brothers to the Rescue.<\/p>\n

Residents have until the board meeting, the location of which has not been announced, to comment on the proposal.<\/p>\n
