That\u2019s a resume that practically screams, \u201cI\u2019ve seen things that would make most people weep softly into their hard hats.\u201d But despite the impressive career trajectory, Thomas wanted something more. Something his. Something involving, as it turns out, a lot of cardboard with athletes on it.<\/p>\n<p>Replay Sports Cards, America\u2019s first national franchise dedicated exclusively to the sports card hobby, announced earlier this month that it\u2019s signed Thomas as a franchise partner to bring a new location to Tampa. The shop\u2019s still in development, with a timeline to be announced, but it\u2019s coming.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s where it gets charming. Thomas wasn\u2019t searching for a generic franchise to park some money in. He started selling off old trading cards from his childhood, and it hit him the same way it hits everyone: one minute you\u2019re offloading a 1994 Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card, and the next minute you\u2019re three hours deep into a price guide at 11 pm and your wife is asking whether you\u2019ve eaten dinner. The hobby grabbed him. He fell back in love with it, and then decided to turn that love into a business.<\/p>\n<p>His vision for the Tampa location centers on community. Trade nights. Family events. A place where longtime collectors can geek out alongside parents introducing their kids to the hobby for the first time. Thomas has talked about bonding with his own son over cards, and it\u2019s clear that\u2019s the emotional engine behind the whole project. A card shop, but make it a destination. Make it a place where people slow down.<\/p>\n<p>Replay\u2019s model fits that vision well. The franchise, which already has locations across the Southeast (including one in Boca Raton), combines modern retail infrastructure with an old-school emphasis on relationships.
