(WITN) &#8211; A fire that destroyed a Jacksonville furniture store has been ruled an accident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Jacksonville Fire Department says it completed today the investigation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2026\/06\/04\/photos-aftermath-fire-that-destroyed-jacksonville-furniture-store\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2026\/06\/04\/photos-aftermath-fire-that-destroyed-jacksonville-furniture-store\/\">into the June 3rd fire at Furniture Plus on North Marine Boulevard.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The investigation shows the fire was accidental and caused by \u201cthe improper disposal of smoking materials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The afternoon fire appeared to have started in a warehouse located behind the store. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">WITN reported last week that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2026\/06\/12\/jacksonville-furniture-store-failed-fire-code-april-inspection-before-fire-destroyed-building-document-says\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2026\/06\/12\/jacksonville-furniture-store-failed-fire-code-april-inspection-before-fire-destroyed-building-document-says\/\">six weeks before the blaze,<\/a> city fire inspectors visited the store.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In an April 21st inspection report, a fire inspector said that excessive stock was creating an \u201consite storage issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The report said the store failed the fire code, which prohibits combustible waste material from accumulating in buildings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Five firefighters were injured in battling the June 3rd blaze.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WITN.
