HostDime<\/a>, a tech and cloud company, is advancing construction on the 100,000-square-foot facility. <\/p>\nThroughout the process, residents have questioned how the facility\u2019s size might impact their power and water supply, noise levels and possibly their utility bills. <\/p>\n
The town council decided it could gather answers and organize informational meetings for residents without adopting a formal resolution. <\/p>\n
“This is basically to ensure we have measures in place to protect our community; that’s what this is all about,” a speaker said during the meeting. <\/p>\n
Under construction for years \t<\/p>\n
Manny Vivar, the founder and CEO of HostDime, told WESH 2 in 2023 the eye-catching project located along Interstate 4 on Wymore Road originated from the designs sketched by an architect.<\/p>\n
In 2023, it was considered a rare \u201ctier four\u201d data center, the most reliable, with plans to be stocked with powerful servers, able to handle data storage in the cloud, for global corporations and generating new jobs.<\/p>\n
Controversy <\/p>\n
The former Hungerford Elementary used to be on the property, which is bordered on the north by Kennedy Boulevard. <\/p>\n
Data centers have quickly become a point of contention in several communities across the country. <\/p>\n
In May, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill banning utility companies in Florida from passing data center costs onto residential and business customers. <\/p>\n
