THIS MORNING WE ARE HEARING FROM THE MOTHER AT THE CENTER OF A FERTILITY CLINIC, MIX-UP, AS SHE GAVE BIRTH TO A BABY THAT WAS NOT HERS BIOLOGICALLY. AFTER THE CLINIC IMPLANTED THE WRONG EMBRYO, THAT FERTILITY CENTER HAS SHUT DOWN SINCE THEN. WESH TWO BOB HAZEN REPORTS. THE MOM SAYS SHE’S HAPPY THEY CAN REMAIN A FAMILY. THIS WEEK, THE COUPLE REACHED A CUSTODY AGREEMENT WITH THE BIOLOGICAL PARENTS, SO THEY WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP THE BABY. EVEN THOUGH THE CLINIC HERE SCREWED UP AND THE COUPLE, TIFFANY SCOTT AND STEVEN MILLS, THEY POSTED ON INSTAGRAM LAST NIGHT SAYING, QUOTE, WE HAVE SINCE MET WITH THE BIOLOGICAL PARENTS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND HAVE ULTIMATELY COME TO AN AGREEMENT THAT ALLOWS US TO RETAIN FULL CUSTODY OF SHAY. HER GENETIC PARENTS ARE TRULY WONDERFUL PEOPLE AND WE WILL MAINTAIN A RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM GOING FORWARD. SHE ALSO WROTE, WHILE THIS CHAPTER HAS BROUGHT MORE UNCERTAINTY AND EMOTION THAN WE COULD HAVE EVER IMAGINED, THIS IS THE BEST OUTCOME WE COULD HAVE HOPED FOR AND OUR HEARTS ARE FULL OF GRATITUDE AND RELIEF AS WE LOOK FORWARD TO MOVING FORWARD AS A FAMILY. SCORE AND MILLS SUED THE FERTILITY CENTER OF ORLANDO AFTER THE BABY WAS BORN IN DECEMBER AND HAD SOME OBVIOUS DIFFERENT GENETIC TRAITS THAN EITHER OF THEM. THEY SAY THEY LOCATED THE ACTUAL BIOLOGICAL PARENTS ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, THAT RAISED THE QUESTION OF WHO SHOULD BE ABLE TO RAISE THE BABY MOVING FORWARD. AND FOR THE FIRST TIME NOW, WE ARE HEARING FROM THE LAWYER OF THOSE GENETIC PARENTS. HE SAYS THEY AGREED TO LET MILLS KEEP CUSTODY, BUT THAT IT WAS A HEARTBREAKING DECISION FOR THEM. IT’S JUST AN IMPOSSIBLE SITUATION THAT THAT THAT ALL THESE FOLKS HAVE BEEN PLACED IN. AND AND IT’S ALL DUE TO ONE THING BY JUST THE VERY CARELESS, NEGLIGENT ACTIONS OF A FERTILITY DOCTOR, DOCTOR MCNICOL. THIS HE SAYS HIS CLIENTS ARE DEVASTATED. THE BIRTH COUPLE HAD ANOTHER EMBRYO AS WELL, BEING STORED AT THE FERTILITY CENTER OF ORLANDO. WE’RE TOLD THAT THAT HAS BEEN SENT TO A NEW CLINIC UNDER THE CARE OF A DIFFERENT DOCTOR. THEY’RE ALREADY SUING THE ORIGINAL CLINIC AND THE LAWYER FOR THE BIOLOGICAL PARENTS SAYS THEY’RE ALSO PLANNING TO TAKE LEGA

‘Gratitude and relief’: Birth mother in Orlando IVF mix-up releases statement

   Updated: 11:03 AM EDT Jun 18, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

A Florida couple reached a custody agreement with the biological parents of a baby born in an IVF mix-up. Tiffany Score, the birth mother, shared on Instagram that she and her partner, Steven Mills, have met with the biological parents multiple times and reached an agreement. “We have since met with (the biological parents) on several occasions and have ultimately come to an agreement that allows us to retain full custody of Shea,” Score wrote. She described the genetic parents as “truly wonderful people” and said they plan to maintain a relationship with them. “While this chapter has brought more uncertainty and emotion than we could have ever imagined, this is the best outcome we could have hoped for,” she added. “Our hearts are full of gratitude and relief as we look forward to moving forward as a family.” BackgroundThe mix-up occurred at the Fertility Center of Orlando, which has since shut down. Score and Mills sued the clinic after their baby, born in December, displayed genetic traits that were clearly different from their own. They located the biological parents about two months ago, raising the question of who should raise the child. Lawyer for genetic parents speaks outRob Marcereau, the lawyer representing the genetic parents, said his clients agreed to let Score and Mills keep custody but described the decision as heartbreaking. “It’s just an impossible situation that all these folks have been placed in, and it’s all due to one thing, the very careless, negligent actions of a fertility doctor, Dr. McNichol,” Marcereau said. Marcereau added that his clients are devastated. The birth parents had another embryo stored at the Fertility Center of Orlando, which has since been transferred to a new clinic under the care of a different doctor. Both couples are pursuing legal action against the original clinic. Score and Mills have already filed a lawsuit, and Marcereau confirmed that the genetic parents are planning to do the same.

      ORLANDO, Fla. —

“Our hearts are full of gratitude and relief as we look forward to moving forward as a family.”

Background

The mix-up occurred at the Fertility Center of Orlando, which has since shut down.

Score and Mills sued the clinic after their baby, born in December, displayed genetic traits that were clearly different from their own.
