Mayor Higgins is one of three American mayors invited by Climate Mayors and C40 to participate in the global convening, which brings together mayors, government leaders, business executives, climate experts, and international partners to advance practical solutions on climate action, resilience, and sustainable growth.

As one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable coastal cities, Miami is on the front lines of sea level rise, extreme heat, flooding, and infrastructure challenges. Mayor Higgins’ participation in London Climate Action Week comes as the City continues to advance major investments and programs focused on strengthening neighborhoods, modernizing infrastructure, reducing emissions, and preparing Miami for a more resilient future.

“Miami understands that climate change is not a future challenge; it is a reality we are managing today,” said Mayor Eileen Higgins. “It is an honor to represent our city at London Climate Action Week next week, and I am extremely proud to see Miami’s efforts and innovation recognized on this global stage. This recognition belongs to the dedicated City of Miami employees who work every day to strengthen our infrastructure, protect our neighborhoods, and build a more resilient future for our residents.”

The City currently has more than $1 billion in flood and resilience infrastructure in the pipeline, including pump stations, seawalls, drainage systems, and stormwater upgrades in neighborhoods across Miami. These projects are designed to reduce flooding, protect homes and businesses, strengthen public infrastructure, and improve the quality of life for residents.

Miami is also planning for extreme heat with the same seriousness as hurricane preparedness. The City now experiences approximately 130 days a year above 90 degrees, a number that continues to rise. To help protect residents, Miami has opened 11 cooling centers across the city, installed heat sensors in homes in some of the most affected neighborhoods, and is developing resilience hubs, community spaces that can serve as cooling shelters during heat emergencies and gathering places throughout the year.

During London Climate Action Week, Mayor Higgins will participate in high-level discussions focused on urban resilience, climate finance, sustainable infrastructure, clean energy, data centers, climate leadership, and the role of cities in addressing the impacts of climate change. She will also highlight Miami’s experience as a coastal city already managing the day-to-day realities of flooding and heat.

Miami’s climate work is also tied to economic opportunity. Resilience projects across the city support local jobs, contractors, and small businesses while improving public infrastructure. Through the City’s award-winning BE305 program, large buildings are required to track and improve energy use, helping reduce emissions while saving money for building owners, residents, and businesses.

The City is also applying energy efficiency and resilience standards to new housing, reinforcing the principle that affordable housing should also be resilient housing. By encouraging housing near frequent transit, Miami is working to shorten commutes, connect residents to jobs and services, and build a more efficient and resilient city.

Miami’s leadership has already earned national and international recognition. For two consecutive years, the City has received an “A” rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project for its climate disclosure and action. Miami is the only city in Florida to earn this distinction and one of just over 100 cities worldwide recognized at that level.

London Climate Action Week is one of the world’s leading gatherings focused on climate solutions, bringing together local leaders and partners across sectors to accelerate action on resilience, clean energy, public health, sustainable infrastructure, and economic opportunity. Climate Mayors and C40 are among the world’s leading city-focused climate organizations, helping local leaders share best practices, advance ambitious climate action, and deliver practical solutions that improve residents’ lives.

Mayor Higgins’ participation will allow Miami to share lessons learned from years of work on the front lines of climate change, while also bringing back ideas from other cities confronting similar challenges.

“The City of Miami’s participation in London Climate Action Week is a proud moment and a recognition of the important work happening in our community,” said City Manager James Reyes. “Miami is leading with innovation, collaboration, and a deep commitment to resilience. We are proud to see our city represented on the global stage as leaders from around the world look to cities for practical, effective solutions to climate challenges.”

Connect To Your Customers & Grow Your Business

Miami will showcase its work on flooding, extreme heat, resilient infrastructure, clean energy, and climate innovation during one…

[9
123,125,124
post-311880","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-miami","tag-miami","tag-miami-headlines","tag-miami-news
["GET
