Michael Scotto of HoopsHype<\/a>, the Magic will add DJ Bakker, Mfon Udofia, and Riley Crean as assistant coaches.<\/p>\nBakker joins the Magic after serving as an assistant coach with the Charlotte Hornets and previously as head coach of the Greensboro Swarm, Charlotte’s G League affiliate.<\/p>\n
He has also worked as an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons, giving him several NBA bench coaching stops. His connection with Sweeney is notable, as the two worked together in Detroit.<\/p>\n
Udofia brings a strong player-development r\u00e9sum\u00e9 to Orlando after his time as head coach of the Long Island Nets. He won the most games in Long Island Nets history and helped guide multiple players toward NBA opportunities, including three NBA call-ups this year.<\/p>\n
Udofia also has international coaching experience. He served as Nigeria’s head coach during the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 Qualifiers and was an assistant coach for Nigeria at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.<\/p>\n
Crean, 27, comes to the Magic after serving as the head video coordinator for the Dallas Mavericks.<\/p>\n
He spent three of his four seasons in Dallas working with Sweeney, who was previously on the Mavericks’ coaching staff.<\/p>\n
Crean is also the son of longtime college basketball coach Tom Crean, who has led programs including Marquette, Indiana, and Georgia.<\/p>\n
