Leer en espa\u00f1ol<\/a><\/p>\nThe Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride \u2014 the biggest party in South Florida celebrating love, diversity, equality and inclusion \u2014 is happening this weekend, despite fears it may not even happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been daunting,\u201d said Stonewall Pride Producer Jameer Baptiste.<\/p>\n
Legislation passed by the state of Florida earlier this year bars local governments from spending on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives or events like Pride. Soon after, many sponsors pulled out.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere have been people that have backed out \u2014 businesses, companies,\u201d Baptiste said. \u201cYou\u2019ve been a sponsor with us over five years, over a decade, and now you\u2019re pulling out \u2014 is it truly because your budget has shrunk or is it because of what\u2019s going on politically?\u201d<\/p>\n
The city of Wilton Manors, where most of its elected officials are LGBT+, stepped in to provide safety.<\/p>\n
in 2025, a man was detained after police say he tried entering the parade with a weapon, which is not allowed. It was the first time metal detectors were used \u2014 and they went off, helping police make the arrest. Organizers say they\u2019re spending more on security this year than ever before.<\/p>\n
Still, the spirit of the event is very much alive.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really reinvigorating our community to come together and show our strength and resilience,\u201d Baptiste said. \u201cSo while you\u2019re out having fun out there, remember that hard work, sweat and tears went into making this possible \u2014 that your light isn\u2019t dimmed.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Saturday event features a glow night parade, entertainment and food.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody come out \u2014 make sure if you\u2019re an ally, support, come out,\u201d Baptiste said. \u201cIt\u2019s all about that resilience and the definition of unity, community and belonging.\u201d<\/p>\n
