Summer starts this\u00a0comin\u2019 Sunday on Father\u2019s Day.\u00a0I\u00a0think\u00a0summer\u2019s\u00a0already started\u2026.\u00a0if\u00a0you ask me. Just my opinion, of course!\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0been\u00a0kinda\u00a0hot lately, but fortunately,\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0had some breezes\u00a0blowin\u2019 to keep it a little cooler.\u00a0We\u2019ve\u00a0had a\u00a0couple\u00a0showers but\u00a0very littleimprovement\u00a0on\u00a0our overall drought conditions in the area.\u00a0But,\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0give up; the rain\u00a0is\u00a0comin\u2019;\u00a0just keep on\u00a0prayin\u2019!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0fishin\u2019\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0doin\u2019 too bad in most of the lakes in our area. John over at Bitter\u2019s Bait & Tackle reports that folks are still\u00a0goin\u2019 after those shellcrackers. Lake Kissimmee down east of Lake Wales is on fire for shellcrackers, and so is Lake Monroe and in the St. Johns River out near the Highway 46 bridge. John reports that he sold lots of red worms over the weekend. So, if you want to catch some shellcrackers,\u00a0now\u2019s\u00a0your chance to get out there and\u2026 just start\u00a0catchin\u2019\u00a0em!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

See Member Benefits<\/a>Join Our Newsletter<\/a><\/p>\n If you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have a boat, try\u00a0fishin\u2019\u00a0off the seawall up in Sanford.\u00a0Folks\u2019ve\u00a0been\u00a0catchin\u2019\u00a0a mixed bag of shellcrackers, bluegills, catfish, and some mullet in Lake Monroe right off the seawall.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The bass\u00a0fishin\u2019 slowed down\u00a0some this\u00a0past weekend. The Johns Lake Wednesday Night Shootout had 21 boats last week, and it only took 8.80 pounds to win. Congrats to Don Fisher and Billy Charland\u00a0on\u00a0their win. The biggest bass for the tournament was caught by the team of Doug Saul and Mike\u00a0Bruton\u00a0which hit the scales at 4.60 pounds.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The bass are still\u00a0bitin\u2019 in Lake Fairview, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0been better\u00a0fishin\u2019 at night instead of\u00a0durin\u2019 the day.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The bass\u00a0fishin\u2019 is\u00a0pretty good\u00a0on the Butler Chain. You need to get on the water early because the kids are out of school now, and they start\u00a0wave-ridin\u2019\u00a0durin\u2019 the day. If you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0want to bob around like a bobber, you need to get out on the water as early as you can to avoid all the boat traffic out there.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n On Wednesday nights,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0a tournament\u00a0bein\u2019 held out of Big Toho Marine. Last week it took 19.50 pounds to win. Congrats to Fred and Terry on their win. Big bass for the night was caught by the team of Jesse and Don who caught a bass that hit the scales at 8.49 pounds.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0a nice one!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The bass are still\u00a0bitin\u2019 good at the Headwaters Lake down in Palm Bay. The guides are\u00a0reportin\u2019 that the topwater bite is really good first thing in the\u00a0mornin\u2019. It lasts for about two hours and then you\u00a0have to\u00a0start\u00a0fishin\u2019 with\u00a0chatterbaits, speed worms, or the Gambler Big EZ. Try and find some clear water flats with a little scattered hydrilla, and you\u00a0should\u00a0be able to catch some bass! The water temperature is about 84 degrees, so\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0warmin\u2019 up\u00a0real\u00a0fast.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The bass\u00a0fishin\u2019 is\u00a0doin\u2019 good down at Lake Okeechobee. The bass are\u00a0schoolin\u2019 up around the grass line and the isolated hydrilla patches. Some folks are\u00a0fishin\u2019 with shiners in the openings and the boat trails throughout the lake. The water is still low, so you need to be vigilant while\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0navigatin\u2019 the lake.\u00a0All\u00a0the lakes, for that matter!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Like I reported earlier,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a little cooler\u00a0fishin\u2019 at night, and there are plenty of tournaments close by in our area if you\u00a0do\u00a0like to fish at night.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Well,\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0it for this week.
