SANFORD, Fla. \u2013 A Seminole County deputy shot and killed an armed man early Saturday morning after gunfire broke out at a large block party in Sanford\u2019s Midway neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Deputies responded just after 1 a.m. to a noise disturbance on Sipes Avenue. According to the Seminole County Sheriff\u2019s Office, while working to break up a large crowd, two armed individuals opened fire.<\/p>\n
Two other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No deputies were hurt.<\/p>\n
FDLE called in for independent review<\/p>\n
The Seminole County Sheriff\u2019s Office has asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to conduct an independent investigation into the deputy-involved shooting.<\/p>\n
The sheriff\u2019s office said there is no continuing threat to the community and the incident is being treated as isolated.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on the information known at this time, the deputy\u2019s actions likely saved lives by immediately stopping an armed individual who was actively firing at a large gathering,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
