The Miami Heat<\/a> has long been rumored to be aggressively pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a> from the Milwaukee Bucks in the offseason. But if their initial plan to welcome Giannis in Miami does not happen, they have set a solid plan B for them.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to NBA<\/a> insider Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Heat have set their eyes on two-time NBA champion Kawhi Leonard<\/a> as their plan B, if ever the Giannis trade does not happen in their favor.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cLeague sources also confirmed a report from NBA reporter Jake Fischer that the LA Clippers\u2019 Kawhi Leonard is on the Heat\u2019s Plan B list (or the Golden State Warriors\u2019 Plan A list),\u201d Amick reported.<\/p>\n

However, Amick noted that no one in the league even knows if Leonard, who has been with the LA Clippers<\/a> for seven years, would be available in the offseason.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cThe issue around the league, however, is that no one seems to know if Leonard is truly available,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Miami Heat have strong interest in Kawhi Leonard if they fail to land Giannis Antetokounmpo, per @sam_amick<\/a> <\/p>\n

The Heat has been regarded as the frontrunner in the Giannis deal. However, there have been reports of the Bucks not being fond of what the Heat are offering them in the trade talks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, the Bucks are demanding that the Heat give up Kel\u2019el Ware, Jaime Jaquez<\/a> Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, the No. 13 pick, and a future first-rounder from Miami, while they would have to re-route guard Tyler Herro<\/a> with a third team.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Miami Heat could be monitoring Kawhi Leonard\u2019s contract situation with the LA Clippers this offseason.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to NBA insider Tim MacMahon, Leonard\u2019s future with the Clippers hinges on whether the team can sign him on a team-friendly contract. If not, they would be exploring the possibility of trading him to another team, like the Heat.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMy understanding is if there\u2019s going to be an extension there\u2019s going to be some legitimate negotiations,\u201d MacMahon said in the Hoops Collective podcast. \u201cThis isn\u2019t just, \u2018can you take a little haircut?\u2019 He\u2019s going to have to take a pay cut, I believe, to extending with the Clippers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we\u2019ll see. I think it\u2019s extend him with a pay cut or explore the trade market. I think those are the two real options,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd obviously with this youth movement, they\u2019ve positioned themselves to where hey, if it\u2019s explore the trade market, they\u2019ve already kind of started the post-Kawhi transition despite the fact that they still have some picks that they owe.\u201dThe\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clippers Have Yet To Make Kawhi Leonard Available For Other Teams\"Los\"Los<\/p>\n

The Clippers, however, have been deeply hesitant to trade Leonard because of Clippers owner Steve Ballmer\u2019s desire to retain him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other reports indicated that Ballmer has been adamant about giving up Leonard to another team, including the Golden State Warriors<\/a>, whose squad inquired about the two-time NBA champion\u2019s availability.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another issue is the NBA\u2019s ongoing investigation into the Clippers and Leonard\u2019s salary cap circumvention with a third-party company.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For now, teams wait for the resolution of the issue before deciding on Leonard\u2019s future.<\/p>\n
