MIAMI \u2014 A shooting in Miami\u2019s Liberty City neighborhood stemmed from a $40 debt the suspect owed the victim, according to the city\u2019s police department.<\/p>\n
Miami police took the 56-year-old accused gunman, Steven Green, into custody on Saturday. <\/p>\n
According to investigators, the shooting happened just before 11:30 Wednesday morning at the Biscayne Court apartment building at 5211 NW 17th Ave.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report, the victim told detectives that he was at a nearby liquor store when Green, of northwest Miami-Dade, pulled up in a white sedan.<\/p>\n
Police said the victim approached Green, whom he knows as \u201cBlackey,\u201d about the $40 debt \u2015 over a phone bill \u2015 and the two eventually ended up in the stairwell of the apartment building.<\/p>\n
Authorities said Green pulled out a pistol. According to the report, the victim told police he asked Green, \u201cWhat, are you going to shoot me?\u201d before Green did just that, firing six shots into his abdomen before fleeing.<\/p>\n
After being located Saturday evening, police said Green claimed he had been the target of a robbery after the victim asked him to charge his phone. The report states that Green claimed the victim had pulled a knife on him and demanded money.<\/p>\n
Police said Green originally claimed he gave the victim money, but then changed his story and said he didn\u2019t because he had \u201cnothing to give.\u201d<\/p>\n
Green, the report states, \u201cplaced himself on the scene at the time of the incident but denied all other allegations.\u201d<\/p>\n
As of Monday, Green was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on four charges, including a count of attempted murder.<\/p>\n
