Arthur’s remnants<\/a> are over the Atlantic and expected to dissipate tonight after dropping heavy rainfall<\/a> and flooding areas along the Gulf Coast.<\/p>\n

Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 7 days for the North Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf, according to today’s tropical weather outlook from the National Hurricane Center in Florida.<\/p>\n

The NHC is tracking four tropical waves, but they do not pose a threat to Florida at this time.<\/p>\n

Here’s what the hurricane center is tracking in the tropics on Saturday, June 20, 2026.<\/p>\n

There are four tropical waves<\/a> being watched by forecasters:<\/p>\n

A far eastern Atlantic tropical wave has its axis along 21W from 03N to 16N. It is moving westward near 10 kt.<\/p>\n

An eastern Atlantic tropical wave has its axis along 35W from 02N to 16N moving westward at 15 to 20 kt.<\/p>\n

A central Atlantic tropical wave has its axis along 56W south of 18N to inland Suriname.<\/p>\n

A central Caribbean tropical wave is along 77W south of 19N. It is moving westward at about 15 to 20 kt.<\/p>\n

What is a tropical wave?<\/p>\n

“Tropical waves are clusters of showers and thunderstorms that act as the seedlings for many tropical storms throughout the Atlantic season,” DaSilva said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are about 60 tropical waves that move across the Atlantic each year, and roughly 10 percent to 15 percent of them develop into a tropical system. That\u2019s about one in seven.<\/p>\n

“Tropical waves are important because they contribute to about 80 percent of all major hurricanes.”<\/p>\n

When does hurricane season end?<\/p>\n

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30.<\/p>\n

Ninety-seven percent of tropical cyclone activity<\/a> occurs during this time period, NOAA said.<\/p>\n
