Jessica Rinaldi\/The Boston Globe\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For nearly two weeks, Scotland\u2019s famed Tartan Army transformed Boston into a home away from home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, as thousands of supporters pack their bags and head south for the next stage of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/tag\/world-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">World Cup<\/a>, they\u2019re leaving behind a city filled with memories \u2014 and heartfelt messages of gratitude.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNew England \u2013 it has been an absolute pleasure,\u201d the Tartan Army wrote on social media. \u201cAcross Boston, Providence, Newport and many towns in between you\u2019ve welcomed us with open arms and unbelievable hospitality, and we can\u2019t thank you enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scotland opened its World Cup run at Boston Stadium on June 13 with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/sports\/world-cup\/2026\/06\/13\/scotland-haiti-live-updates-score-video-world-cup-soccer-football\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1-0 victory over Haiti<\/a> before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/sports\/world-cup\/2026\/06\/19\/scotland-morocco-world-cup-live-coverage-boston\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">falling 1-0 to Morocco on Friday<\/a>. Despite the setback, the enthusiasm of Scotland\u2019s supporters never faded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tartan Army is now making its way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/tag\/florida\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miami, Florida<\/a>, for Scotland\u2019s next match against Brazil.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs we begin our journeys to South Florida, we hope it\u2019s not goodbye, but see you again soon,\u201d the group wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">New England \u2013 it has been an absolute pleasure. Scottish supporters woke up city streets with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/culture\/world-cup\/2026\/06\/16\/watch-bagpipes-and-bucket-drums-make-a-culture-connection-at-faneuil-hall\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sounds of bagpipes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/world-cup\/2026\/06\/17\/bars-are-packed-for-the-world-cup-but-are-servers-cashing-in\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">packed local bars<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/sports\/world-cup\/2026\/06\/17\/scotland-world-cup-fans-north-shore-beefs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">restaurants<\/a>, and filled downtown with chants of \u201cNo Scotland, no party.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Along the way, they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/sports\/world-cup\/2026\/06\/13\/world-cup-boston-foxborough-scotland-haiti-fans-social-media-video\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">embraced local traditions and became social media sensations<\/a>, whether by testing out Boston\u2019s famous police slide, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/world-cup\/2026\/06\/17\/jobi-liquors-boston-scotland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">posing with landmarks<\/a>, or placing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/sports\/world-cup\/2026\/06\/21\/julian-edelman-world-cup-scotland-tartan-army-video-scots-soccer-football\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">orange traffic cones<\/a> atop some of the city\u2019s most recognizable statues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou\u2019ve made us feel more than welcome in the time we\u2019ve spent with you,\u201d the Scotland National Team wrote on social media. \u201cYou\u2019ve made us feel part of your incredible city. Many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/sports\/morning-sports-update\/2026\/06\/18\/scottish-fans-boston-new-york-world-cup-interview-video\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">embraced quintessential Boston experiences<\/a> even before Scotland\u2019s first match, including attending a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/sports\/morning-sports-update\/2026\/06\/15\/scottish-fans-fenway-park-red-sox-world-cup-tartan-army\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Sox game at Fenway Park on June 14<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/tag\/boston-red-sox\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Sox<\/a> President Sam Kennedy wrote a letter to Scottish Football Association President Mike Mulraney and Chief Executive Ian Maxwell, thanking the Tartan Army for its visit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKilts and Scottish flags filled our ballpark with a spirit that has no equivalent in American sport,\u201d Kennedy wrote. \u201cIt was genuinely one of the most moving things we have witnessed at Fenway Park in a very long time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cScotland\u2019s return to the World Cup after 28 years deserves every bit of enthusiasm your supporters brought to Boston,\u201d Kennedy continued. \u201cWe are proud that Fenway Park could be part of this chapter in your celebration.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Red Sox owner John Henry also owns Boston.com\u2019s parent company, Boston Globe Media Partners. The Boston Globe similarly published a farewell note to Scotland\u2019s supporters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou came for the World Cup, but gave us something more,\u201d the message reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBoston has hosted championships, parades, and celebrations of every kind. But we\u2019ve never hosted guests quite like you all,\u201d the message continued. \u201cThank you for the laughter, the bagpipes, and the memories. The World Cup will move on. So will the songs, but we\u2019ll never forget the joy you brought to our city.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As supporters prepared to depart, public officials and law enforcement agencies also joined in, expressing their appreciation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gov. Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu welcomed Scottish visitors throughout the tournament, and the trip concluded with a letter of intent that could eventually make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/world-cup\/2026\/06\/18\/amid-boston-and-scotlands-world-cup-love-affair-wu-moves-to-make-glasgow-a-sister-city\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boston and Glasgow sister cities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Congrats on the win, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ScotlandNT?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">@ScotlandNT<\/a>! \ud83c\udff4\udb40\udc67\udb40\udc62\udb40\udc73\udb40\udc63\udb40\udc74\udb40\udc7f<\/p>\n<p>Between the bagpipes, the kilts, and thousands of Scotland fans turning Boston into their home away from home, the Tartan Army has made quite an impression on Massachusetts. It\u2019s only fitting that I have my own kit and tartan for the next\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ETB9D8yCD1\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/ETB9D8yCD1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Maura Healey (@MassGovernor) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MassGovernor\/status\/2066153996364943401?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">June 14, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/r\/17nqg1EomJ\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">State Police<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/p\/1H4hGJFHux\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Boston Police Department<\/a> also thanked Scottish fans for their visit. On Saturday, members of the State Police Pipes and Drums unit performed as Scotland\u2019s national team departed the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThanks for bringing the Tartan Army to the Bay State,\u201d State Police wrote on social media. \u201cYou\u2019re welcome back any time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For now, Scotland\u2019s World Cup journey continues in Miami, where the team will face Brazil on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, Boston may not have seen the last of the Scots.
