Per ESPN and Charania, the Heat will send the Bucks unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and ‘33 along with the 13th pick this year. The future pick swap is for ‘30, while the second-round pick is for ‘33. The deal is one-to-one between the Heat and the Bucks but it won’t be officially executed until July 6, which leaves the two sides the opportunity to expand the trade.

The Celtics were the other finalist and Boston offered Jaylen Brown and two first-round picks for Antetokounmpo, according to Charania. The Bucks go with Miami’s package of picks and intriguing young players, however, as the franchise moves off its longtime superstar.

MORE: Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Grades: How Heat, Bucks Fared in Massive Six-Player Deal

Antetokounmpo’s breakup with the Bucks reaches its highly-anticipated conclusion the night before the draft. Here are our three main takeaways from the massive trade:

Heat instantly become a legitimate title threat Giannis Antetokounmpo will play alongside Bam Adebayo in Miami | Jim Rassol-Imagn Images

It’s no secret that this is a win-now move for the Heat. Two-time MVP winners rarely become available and team president Pat Riley struck once again to bring Antetokounmpo to Miami. The move puts him alongside Bam Adebayo to make the NBA’s newest and most exciting superstar duo, which makes the franchise an immediate threat to the Knicks in the Eastern Conference and a legitimate title contender. The Heat parted with their pool of young talent and ample draft capital to get the deal done, but that’s what it takes to bring back a player of Antetokounmpo’s caliber.

Now, Riley must figure out how to fill the roster alongside the new star pairing after giving up significant depth. Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell and Nikola Jović are still around, while Norman Powell is a free agent. Portis will help and there will be no shortage of players who’d happily sign up to play for Miami. No matter how the roster shakes out, though, bringing in one of the NBA’s most dominant players changes the tide for the Heat after missing the playoffs this past season.

Milwaukee looks toward the future instead of immediate relief Kel’el Ware is headed to the Bucks as part of the Antetokounmpo trade | Jim Rassol-Imagn Images

The Bucks had two drastically different offers to choose from. The Heat’s was centered around young talent and considerable draft capital, while Boston’s included Brown who would’ve helped Milwaukee stay afloat immediately without Antetokounmpo. Brown is coming off a career year where he received second team All-NBA honors, but adding him would’ve brought back fewer draft picks. It was a choice between a full rebuild and a risk of remaining competitive with a new star player.

Adding Brown could’ve brought a risk that he’d eventually leave if things didn’t go the right way, which made the Heat’s future-focused offer what the Bucks landed on. It will be a rough road ahead for Milwaukee, but the franchise brought in two intriguing young players in Ware and Jakučionis who can continue to develop, plus Herro and Jaquez who are both still young and will help immediately. Plus, Milwaukee will now pick at No. 13 in addition to its own No. 10 pick in Tuesday night’s draft, which brings an immediate opportunity to further build out a young core.

The Celtics have some explaining to do with Jaylen Brown Jaylen Brown was reportedly offered to the Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo | Winslow Townson-Imagn Images

Boston was the other finalist in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, dangling Brown and two first-round picks in front of Milwaukee. The Bucks went elsewhere, which leaves the Celtics in a sticky situation with one of their star players. Brown averaged 28.7 points per game last season, the fourth-most in the NBA behind Luka Dončić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Anthony Edwards. Boston earned the second seed in the Eastern Conference mostly thanks to Brown’s career year without Jayson Tatum for most of the season.

It remains to be seen what the fallout is from such a public trade offer. The franchise has been here before with Brown as the Celtics reportedly offered him to the Nets as the centerpiece in a trade package for Kevin Durant in 2022. That’s water under the bridge now, but two times may be too many. Winning solves everything, but it may be a long, uncomfortable summer for Brown and the Celtics.

If you want to follow the aftermath of the Antetokounmpo trade on a minute-by-minute basis, Sports Illustrated provided live updates and immediate coverage of the blockbuster deal, included below:

Giannis Antetokounmpo traded to Heat: Live updates, instant analysisGiannis Antetokounmpo career accomplishments

Antetokounmpo has played his entire 13-year NBA career in Milwaukee.
