(NewsNation<\/a>) \u2014 Florida Senator Rick Scott told NewsNation on Monday that a controversial artist should not be allowed to perform at a taxpayer-funded Florida venue.<\/p>\n

Scott called on the Tampa Sports Authority to cancel performances by controversial artist Ye, formerly Kanye West<\/a>, over antisemitic comments made by the musician.<\/p>\n

In a conversation with Katie Pavlich<\/a> on NewsNation\u2019s \u201cKatie Pavlich Tonight<\/a>,\u201d the Senator outlined his reasoning.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clear Kanye West is antisemitic; he sells clothing with swastikas,\u201d Scott said. \u201cHe adores Adolf Hitler.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moreover, Scott argued that the Tampa Sports Authority, and therefore its tax-paying Jewish population,<\/a> was being forced to indirectly fund the concert,<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0don\u2019t believe that we should allow our public institutions to bring somebody in who is supporting hatred,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n

Scott joins San Antonio mayor Gina Ortiz Jones<\/a> as policymakers who want to cancel Ye\u2019s performances due to his past comments. The move comes as leaders in Europe have banned Ye<\/a> from performing at a London festival.<\/p>\n

Washington priorities<\/p>\n

Scott also discussed the SAVE America Act<\/a>, which he described as a focal point in priorities in Washington. He said President Donald Trump considered the passage of the federal election-integrity bill one of his top priorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we don\u2019t secure our elections, then we\u2019re not going to have a country,\u201d Scott said. \u201cYou can see what happened to Spencer Pratt and what\u2019s going on in California.\u201d (Pratt failed to win his race for mayor in Los Angeles and some Republicans are charging that voting fraud is responsible.)<\/p>\n

Scott posited developing a strategy to handle a potential government shutdown<\/a> as a consequence of pushing through the SAVE America Act.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Democrats have shut down the government] three times since [Trump] got elected,\u201d Scott said.\u00a0\u201cThey\u2019re going to do it again.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also suggested splitting the act<\/a> into pieces.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe we can just get voter ID done;\u00a0let\u2019s do that. Maybe it\u2019s just that you have to be a U.S. citizen to register to vote.\u00a0Let\u2019s get that passed,\u201d he said. \u201cWhatever we can get done.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also suggested that senators should spend more time in session, working to advance their priorities and to vote more frequently to break legislative gridlock.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s start voting every day to get things done in the Senate,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n
