{"id":317305,"date":"2026-06-23T21:11:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T21:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/317305\/"},"modified":"2026-06-23T21:11:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T21:11:12","slug":"seniors-at-higher-risk-for-dehydration-as-dangerous-heat-settles-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/317305\/","title":{"rendered":"Seniors at higher risk for dehydration as dangerous heat settles in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1320\" height=\"1025\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Image.jpg\" class=\"attachment-262021 size-262021 wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" large=\"\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tListen:<\/p>\n<p>June 23rd is National Hydration Day, and the Tampa Bay area is already feeling heat index values as high as 105.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Older adults may face unique dehydration risks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mari Beth Braden is the director of the adult daycare program at Neighborly.<\/p>\n<p>She works with seniors with significant cognitive impairment, and says they carry unique dehydration risks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir brain has changed, you know, they don\u2019t have that sensor anymore that\u2019s telling them that they\u2019re thirsty. So they\u2019re not going to go for a drink like we would if, you know, if we were thirsty.\u201d Braden told WMNF.<\/p>\n<p>Braden says the signs of dehydration may be confused with natural aging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes you might not see the signs as quickly because you would think it\u2019s just kind of, this normal aging, you know, their confusion type of things.
