“The closure of Schwebel\u2019s marks the end of an important chapter in Ohio’s baking industry,” Orlando Baking Company leadership said in a statement. “For many dedicated employees, this transition was unexpected. We want them to know there are opportunities available at Orlando Baking Company, where their experience, skills, and commitment to quality will be valued.”<\/p>\n
On June 17, Schwebel’s announced that it will “wind down its operations in an orderly fashion” following the Fourth of July weekend “and expects to initiate a liquidation of its business.” The company, which was founded in 1906, has dealt with financial troubles for years, and though it tried to find someone willing to buy the business and keep it running, CEO Steve Cooper said a deal could not be reached.<\/p>\n
