While Universal Orlando Resort\u2019s announcement of the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster effectively ended speculation surrounding a new permanent Ghostbusters attraction, at least momentarily, a new construction update is likely to make some Ghostbusters fans nostalgic for yesteryear.<\/p>\n

Shared today by Inside Universal<\/a>, a photo from Universal Studios Florida\u2019s New York backlot appears to show crews actively repairing the large opening that was cut into the iconic Ghostbusters Firehouse fa\u00e7ade ahead of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit\u2018s opening in 2009, which made way for the coaster\u2019s track.<\/p>\n

Visible in the image is the internal framework now occupying the space where the coaster track once passed through the building. While Universal has yet to comment on the work taking place, the construction suggests the fa\u00e7ade could eventually be restored to something much closer to its original appearance before Rip Ride\u2018s arrival.<\/p>\n

For longtime Ghostbusters fans, the building holds a special place in Universal Orlando history. From 1990 through 1996, the Firehouse served as the entrance to the beloved Ghostbusters Spooktacular stage show, allowing guests to walk through the iconic headquarters before experiencing the attraction. Following Spooktacular\u2018s closure, the space would eventually be repurposed for Twister\u2026 Ride It Out, while Ghostbusters performers continued making appearances throughout the park\u2019s New York streets.<\/p>\n

In other Universal-related news, while Ghostbusters no longer has a dedicated attraction, the franchise continues to have a visible presence across the resort. This year, the Ghostbusters once again returned as part of Universal Studios Florida\u2019s annual Mega Movie Parade<\/a>, joining a lineup of beloved film properties represented throughout the park.<\/p>\n

Beyond the park itself, the franchise has also expanded its footprint, as a new Ghostbusters display inside the Hard Rock Hotel<\/a> features both the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Mooglie, along with several Mini-Pufts causing a bit of mischief while holding a PKE Meter. The display is part of a larger summer offering taking place across Universal Orlando Resort\u2019s 11 hotels.<\/p>\n
