TITUSVILLE, Fla. \u2013 Titusville Police Chief John Lau was fired from his position on Wednesday after a local car crash, according to city officials.<\/p>\n
In a statement, City Manager Tom Abbate said that Lau was terminated \u201cfollowing a preliminary administrative review of violations of City Personnel Policy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Florida Highway Patrol responded to an incident involving Lau in Brevard County on Tuesday night, wherein he was involved in a crash while operating a city vehicle, the statement reveals.<\/p>\n
News 6 reached out to the FHP for more details. Investigators explained that the crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on Barna Avenue and River Oaks Drive.<\/p>\n
During the incident, Lau \u2014 who was driving a police vehicle \u2014 ran off the roadway and overturned several times, the FHP noted. Lau was taken to the hospital afterward with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Tyler Wright will fill in as the interim chief of police, Abbate added.<\/p>\n
Lau first began his career with the Titusville Police Department back in 1992, though he was appointed police chief in 2012.<\/p>\n
