HOBE SOUND, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Water service in Martin County has been disrupted after a man crashed his vehicle into the Hobe Sound-Osprey water treatment plant and later said, \u201cI messed up,\u201d before fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n

According to the Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office, the crash occurred around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. A witness reported hearing a loud crash and later saw a man sitting outside the damaged area.<\/p>\n

The witness told deputies the man repeatedly said, \u201cI messed up,\u201d before running from the scene. Deputies are searching for a man with a neck tattoo who appears to be in his late 20s and was described as wearing a tank top.<\/p>\n

The sheriff\u2019s office said the crash disrupted water service and water pressure for many Hobe Sound residents. Deputies said it is unclear how long the disruption will last. <\/p>\n

The disruption is affecting customers from Bridge Road north to Sea Branch, the South Martin Regional Utility says. <\/p>\n

In a notice to customers the water facility says customers may experience low to no water pressure due to the water main break. Staff from the SMRU is currently on the scene. <\/p>\n

“We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation,” the water utility company says. <\/p>\n

Photos from the scene show a damaged silver vehicle that crashed into water pipes, with water gushing from the broken lines.<\/p>\n
