The Florida Education Association (FEA<\/a>) is endorsing Democrat David Jolly<\/a> for Governor.<\/p>\n

The FEA said it made its pick in partnership with the Florida AFL-CIO and other public-sector unions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis endorsement is a recognition of David Jolly\u2019s advocacy for teachers, support professionals, higher education institutions, and our neighborhood public schools, as well as his commitment to our communities,\u201d FEA said in a press release.<\/p>\n

FEA represents 120,000 members who work in Pre-K-12 education, higher education.<\/p>\n

\u201cStrengthening public education and supporting workers aren\u2019t partisan ideals \u2014 they\u2019re essential to building strong communities and securing Florida\u2019s long-term economic future,\u201d said FEA President Andrew Spar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cFloridians are tired of empty promises from lawmakers while facing a relentless cost-of-living crisis and underfunded public schools. As families struggle with rising costs for necessities like rent, childcare, and groceries, anti-worker legislation has attempted to chip away at the constitutionally enshrined rights of workers and left our students neglected in favor of political games. This election is our chance to end profiteering by out-of-state, billionaire-backed special interests and elect a governor who puts Florida\u2019s children, families, and workers first.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jolly, a former U.S. Representative, said he was grateful for the educator union\u2019s backing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cFlorida\u2019s teachers and education professionals dedicate their lives to our children and the future of our state,\u201d Jolly said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud to have the support of the Florida Education Association. Gwen and I believe in strengthening neighborhood public schools, supporting educators, and making sure every student in Florida has the opportunity to succeed,\u201d he added, referencing his choice for Lieutenant Governor, Gwen Graham.<\/p>\n

The FEA listed several concerns, including billions going toward \u201cstate\u2019s unaccountable voucher program,\u201d an academic freedom crackdown in higher education, and low teacher pay.<\/p>\n

Jolly is running in a crowded field for Governor. On the Republican side, candidates include Lt. Gov. Jay Collins<\/a>, U.S. Rep.
